Vancouver Rise FC defeats Calgary Wild FC 1-0 as midfielder Quinn scores on a penalty in the 22nd minute for the first goal in NSL history.

Toronto opener

Montreal Roses FC hung on to edge AFC Toronto 1-0 in Game 2 at BMO Field.

The lone goal came from a blunder as Montreal co-captain Tanya Boychuk, a 24-year-old former Canadian youth international from Edmonton, was gifted a gilt-edged opportunity in the second minute.

Toronto outshot Montreal 15-4 (6-2 in shots on target) and had 59 per cent possession.

Tides host Wild

Kahli Johnson scored twice and the Calgary Wild won their first road match of the new Northern Super League with a 4-1 decision against the Halifax Tides on Saturday at Wanderers Grounds in Halifax.

The Wild controlled the ball 61 per cent of the game and outshot the hosts 13-9 (6-3 on target). The visitors had more corners (7-5) and more touches (524-395). The Tides had two yellow cards.
