Canada is sending two competitors to this Diamond League stop – Alysha Newman in the women’s pole vault and Christopher Morales-Williams in the men’s 400-metres.

Rabat is the second event of the outdoor season for Newman. The Delaware, Ont., native finished eighth at last week’s meet in new Doha, Qatar.

That event was won by Great Britain’s Molly Caudery, the only competitor to successfully clear 4.75 metres.

Morales-Williams owns a personal best of 44.50 seconds in the 400, and comes into the event ranked 18th in the world.

The 20-year-old runner from Maple., Ont., be up against top stars like Quincy Hall of the U.S., and Botswana’s Bayapo Ndori, who have world rankings of third and seventh, respectively.

There may only be two Canadians in Rabat, but there’s no shortage of international stars.

That includes the reigning Olympic champion in the men’s 200m, Letsile Tobogo. The Botswanan won the stop in Doha with a season-best time of 20.10 seconds. This time around Tobogo be running in the men’s 100m against South Africa’s Akani Simbini, who has a season’s best of 9.90 in the distance.

Dutch runner Femke Bol opens her 400m hurdles season in Morocco. The reigning world champion makes her season debut with the No. 1-ranking for the first time in her career.

Also in action will be the world No. 1 ranked Kenyans Beatrice Chebet (women’s 3,000m) and Emmanuel Wanyonyi (men’s 800m).
